Malala, The Hero
sprihadpsWhat is peace? That is a question asked by many and the answer may vary. For me, peace means balance and a sense of tranquility and harmony. It signifies the balance between gender, religion, caste and colour. Peace is present in me, you, us. It is the reason families, countries and the universe is together. It is something which is often forgotten and lost but our peaceful heroes of each age have always brought it back. In today's world, peace is hard to find but who will restore it? Can we even do it? Yes. We, ourselves can restore it. Peace is something which all of us can contribute to restore. It's not that difficult. Introducing one of the greatest peaceful heroes who have contributed to bring peace by supporting woman's right to education called Malala.
Malala is born on 12 July 1997 at dawn in Pakistan, Mingora. She is a daughter of Ziauddin Yousafzai and Toor Pekai Yousafzai. She is a female education activist and an educational campaigner. Malala which means grief-striken is named after Malalai of Maiwand, who was one of the greatest heroine of Afganistan. Malala was extremely competitive and a bright student when she was a child. She always used to come first in her class. She led a simple school life with her best friend Moniba, until the age of 10 the Taliban came. They disapproved of girls going to school strongly. When Malala was eleven she began to write vlogs for the BBC Urdu about her life during the Taliban. Her first entry posted in the BBC Urdu was that she had a nightmare about the Taliban and that she was scared to go to school now as the Taliban had banned girls from going to school. She received most of her education in Kushal School, which was founded by her father. But due to the Taliban's arrival Malala's school was forced to close and they had to leave Mingora. It was a horrible experience for Malala. In 2009 Malala and her family became Internally displaced persons. After three months of roaming various places, they finally returned to Mingora. But the Taliban was back soon. As time passed, Malala organised Malala Education Foundation to send poor girls to school. As Malala gained popularity, her father recieved threats by the Taliban. On 9 October 2012, Malala was shot by a gunman on her school bus also injuring two other girls. Malala was airlifted to a military hospital in Peshawar and soon she was shifted to Armed Forces Institute in Rawalpindi, later, moved to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in England. This assassination attempt caused an angry uproar and Malala was supported. In 2013, she became the co author of the famous book I Am Malala. In 2014 she received National Youth Peace Prize, considered to be one of the most empowered woman and is respected all over the world. How about we start to make people realise how important peace is too by doing small acts of kindness?
